The flag of South Holland

The flag of South Holland is arguably one of the most radiant flags in the Netherlands. Its bright yellow and red radiate from the moment you raise it. Not only is this flag one of the brightest provincial flags in our country, it's also one of the youngest. It has only been the official flag of South Holland since January 1, 1986.

Even before 1986, the colors yellow and red were used in the flag of South Holland: from 1948 onward, a yellow flag with a simple red stripe was used. The desire to give the flag more symbolic value led to a change in the 1980s: the current version now features a lion from the coat of arms of Holland.
