The flag of Flevoland

The flag of Flevoland is one of the Dutch provincial flags brimming with symbolism. This brightly colored flag has been the official flag of this province since 1986, even though it only actually existed in the middle of the last century. Flevoland consists of a reclaimed portion of the IJsselmeer, then called the Zuiderzee.

Symbolism in the flag of Flevoland

The flag features a green and blue field, symbolizing the pastureland and the sea from which Flevoland was reclaimed. Next to it, a yellow line represents the many cornfields found in Flevoland. In the upper left corner, a French lily commemorates engineer Lely, who played a major role in the reclamation of Flevoland.
