The Groningen flag is made on sturdy 115 gram gloss polyester ship flag cloth (115 grams/m2) in digital printing.

The glossy polyester ship flag cloth is hemmed all around and fitted with a trouser band with loop and line as standard.

The flag of the province of Groningen

The current flag of Groningen has been the official flag of this northern province since 1950. The four-colour is not to be confused with the flag of the city of Groningen: it only has the green and white of the provincial flag. The Groningen flag also includes the Ommelanden of Groningen (Hunsingo, Fivelingo, the Westerkwartier and Oldambt): these are represented by the colors blue and red.

The cross in the provincial flag shows comparisons with a Scandinavian cross, and is therefore a reference to the trade relationship that the north of the Netherlands maintains with the Scandinavian countries.
