The flag of South Holland

The flag of South Holland can be called one of the most radiant flags in the Netherlands. The bright yellow and red shine towards you as soon as you raise the flag. Not only is this flag one of the brightest colored provincial flags in our country, it is also one of the youngest. This flag has only been used as the official flag of South Holland since January 1, 1986.

Even before 1986, the colors yellow and red were already used in the flag of South Holland: from 1948 a yellow flag with a simple red stripe was used. The desire to assign more symbolic value to the flag led to the flag being changed in the 1980s: the current copy now features a lion from the coat of arms of Holland.
