The pennant of Flevoland

The Flevoland pennant is one of the Dutch provincial flags that is full of symbolism. This brightly colored pennant has been the official flag of this province since 1986, which has only actually existed since the middle of the last century. Flevoland consists of a reclaimed part of the IJsselmeer, then called the Zuiderzee.

Symbolism in the pennant of Flevoland

The pennant is characterized by a green and a blue area, which symbolize the meadow landscape and the sea from which Flevoland was extracted. In addition, we see a yellow line, which symbolizes the many cornfields that we find in Flevoland. In the top left corner we find a French lily, which refers to engineer Lely, who played a major role in the reclamation of Flevoland.
