The pennant of the province of Groningen

The current Groningen pennant has been the official pennant of this northern province since 1950. The four-colour is not to be confused with the pennant of the city of Groningen: it only has the green and white of the provincial pennant. The Groningen pennant also includes the Ommelanden of Groningen (Hunsingo, Fivelingo, the Westerkwartier and Oldambt): these are represented by the colors blue and red.

The cross in the provincial pennant shows comparisons with a Scandinavian cross, and is therefore a reference to the trade relationship that the north of the Netherlands maintains with the Scandinavian countries.
