The Zeeland pennant

When you see the pennant of Zeeland, you can almost immediately guess which province of the Netherlands it concerns. The blue and white waves, which appear twice on the pennant, immediately reveal the strong bond that Zeelanders have with the adjacent North Sea.

This pennant has been the official pennant of the province of Zeeland since 1948. In 1953, during the fateful flood disaster, the pennant immediately became more famous. Since this disaster, the pennant has symbolized the eternal battle against the water: the lion climbing the waves is a constant reminder to Zeelanders of the fate that struck the province in 1953.
